ATLANTA – December 23, 2019 – The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) announced today that Zummit Plastics, a manufacturer of plastic stretch film, will expand its Phoenix, Arizona, facility to Columbus with the opening of a new manufacturing facility. The company will create 50 new jobs and invest $25 million in the project.

“As the No. 1 State for Business for seven consecutive years, the strength of Georgia’s manufacturing industry is evident across the state,” said GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson. “We are proud to welcome an innovative manufacturer like Zummit to Muscogee County, and confident that our top-ranked workforce will serve them well as they locate in Columbus. Congratulations to our economic development partners in the community on their hard work to make this possible.”

Zummit Plastics is a qualified producer of biodegradable products. They are currently the only company in the United States that produces biodegradable stretch film.

“We are proud to announce our expansion of Zummit Plastics into Columbus,” said Penny Lucius, operations manager for Zummit Plastics. “Zummit Plastics chose Georgia to accommodate our existing customers as well as new customers on the East Coast more efficiently.”

Zummit Plastics found that Columbus offered a central location for the company along with a unique quality of life that provides an opportunity for future growth and employment opportunities.

“This announcement is a fantastic way to wrap up 2019,” said Russ Carreker, chairman of the Development Authority of Columbus. “We are grateful that Zummit Plastics decided to choose Columbus as the place to achieve business success with their environmentally-friendly stretch film products. Our team has had the pleasure of working with the Zummit crew and we look forward to continuing our relationship. Thanks to all the state and local leaders who worked together to turn this opportunity into a reality."

Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) Project Manager Tony Greene represented the Global Commerce Division in partnership with Georgia Power and the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
