Established in 1986 as a private, not-for-profit health services organization, Columbus Regional Health traces its roots date back to 1836 when the local hospital was a small wooden building on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Columbus Regional Health includes two hospitals – Midtown Medical Center and Northside Medical Center. The system also includes the John B. Amos Cancer Center, Columbus Regional Medical Group with multiple locations, two MyCare Urgent Care Centers and three retail pharmacies. The history of St. Francis Hospital goes back to 1944 when a forward-thinking group of citizens founded the Greater Columbus Committee, which organized the Columbus Planning Association for establishing a new hospital to serve the growing needs of residents in Greater Columbus. The hospital was dedicated in March of 1950. Today, St. Francis is a 376-bed, two-campus regional health system and has earned a national reputation for outstanding quality of care. The hospital system provides a variety of health care services such as the Elena Diaz-Verson Amos Center for Breast Health, the St. Francis Heart Hospital, the Bradley Center for behavioral and mental health care. To further expand care, in January 2016 St. Francis Hospital became part of LifePoint Health, a leading healthcare company headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee.
