Obtain a Business License Muscogee County
- Obtain a Certificate of Occupancy form. All businesses, including home-based businesses in Muscogee County are required to have to have a certificate of occupancy. Forms are filed in person at the Columbus Consolidated Government Center – Inspections & Codes Division, 2nd Floor. 420 10th Street, Columbus, GA (706) 653-4126.
- Apply for your Business License. File in person at the City Services Center, Ground Floor in the Occupational Tax Department, Revenue Division. 3111 Citizens Way, Columbus GA. View Business License Requirements here. Business License renewals are due by April 1 every year.
- Register & Reserve your business name with the Georgia Secretary of State
- Register your business with the Georgia Department of Revenue
- Register with the Georgia Corporations Division
- Register with the Department of Labor (GDOL) – visit Online Employer Tax Registration to see if your business is responsible for paying unemployment insurance taxes.

A corporation is an entity separate from the shareholders.Corporations are normally medium to large businesses.

Pursue contracts with the City of Columbus
- Visit the Finance Department’s webpage. Bid Opportunities | Finance Department (columbusga.gov) select the RFB number and scroll down to view all bid requirements and forms.
- Submit a response using DemandStar.
- Register as a Vendor at the Georgia Procurement Registry to receive email notifications when opportunities become available.
- Be sure to have a current Business License, E-Verify Affidavit, W9 2024, and Conflict of Interest Affidavit in addition to posted requirements.
