FAA Moves Forward with eVTOL Certifications

Electric aircraft are no longer a future ambition for the aviation industry, but rather a real present reality with commercial-ready eVTOL aircraft ready for use. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is pushing forward to ensure that motivated industries can deploy air taxis and other types of eVTOL aircraft technology soon in the U.S. Columbus, GA is positioned to be a part of this new industry.

FAA Administrator says firms are racing for eVTOL approvals

The City of Columbus has recently approved a move to construct electric charging stations and a dedicated vertiport for eVTOL aircraft at Columbus Airport. This is a critical first step to becoming a city at the forefront of eVTOL use in major cities. That may not be too far in the future, as the U.S. Deputy FAA Administrator has recently shared that air taxi firms are racing to secure approvals and certifications so that eVTOL aircraft can be utilized at U.S. airports. 

Augusta Regional Airport and private charter partner Rio Bravo Air are currently exploring options to bring air taxi services to Augusta. Rio Bravo Air, a private air charter service based at Augusta Regional, has signed a letter of intent to purchase up to 5 electric-powered aircraft currently being produced by SkyDrive, a Tokyo-based Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) company. This would open the door for air taxi services to begin in Augusta in the near future.
These signs of progress mean that this new technology could also be coming to Columbus sooner than you think.
