Choose Columbus is pleased to announce that the Columbus, GA healthcare workforce is getting a boost through a $461,000 state grant supporting nursing education at Columbus State University. Awarded by the Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce, the funding will support an additional full-time faculty position for two years and improvements to clinical training facilities. The investment will help expand enrollment capacity and prepare more nurses to meet employer needs. It builds on the university’s introduction of a spring admissions window in 2024, giving aspiring nurses another opportunity to begin their education.
Preparing Skilled Nurses for Regional Healthcare Needs
The grant will also upgrade two medical-surgical simulation labs, allowing students to practice patient-care skills under faculty supervision before entering hospital clinical rotations. These improvements strengthen a program that has achieved a 95% first-time nursing licensure exam pass rate over the last three years, exceeding state and national averages. For Columbus and surrounding rural communities, expanding nursing education supports the workforce needed by hospitals, physicians’ offices, and other healthcare providers. That investment also reinforces healthcare access as an important foundation for regional growth.
